01

The challenge before installation

Until now the customer had focused on cutting steel plate. Looking ahead to further growth, they were considering adding plate bending as a new service. A major reason for looking at new equipment was the expected increase in demand for heavy plate bending, particularly in fields such as offshore wind.

The company already owned a domestically built bending roll installed more than ten years earlier, but the work depended heavily on the experience and manual handling of skilled operators, and production efficiency had become an issue. To develop plate bending into a full business and increase output, they needed a new CNC-controlled bending roll that would reduce the reliance on individual operators and allow efficient forming.

02

The equipment and technology proposed

We began by going through the products the customer would actually be forming, confirming plate thickness, plate width, the required bend shapes and other conditions in detail. Based on those conditions we defined the required capacity and specification, and selected the most suitable CNC bending roll from the DAVI line-up.

By automating the forming process under CNC control, the aim was a production setup that depends less on operator experience than the previous manual work. Because the forming conditions can also be managed as numerical values, the configuration keeps variation in accuracy down and supports repeatable forming.

Support through to installation

For the machine selection, we heard the forming conditions and requirements directly from the customer and acted as the technical and linguistic bridge that conveyed them accurately to DAVI.

This went beyond interpreting. We organised the actual production conditions — what material, at what dimensions, into what shape — and shared them with the manufacturer. Working through the specification with DAVI, we made sure that the machine delivered was right for the application.

Our involvement did not end at delivery. We continued to support the customer until the equipment was installed and running on the shop floor. This is a case where we stood between an overseas manufacturer and a domestic user and supported the whole path from machine selection through delivery to start-up.

04

What changed after installation

With the CNC bending roll, the plate bending process that used to depend heavily on manual work by skilled operators is expected to be automated, making it possible to build a production setup that works efficiently even with a small team.

Large heavy plate work such as wind turbine towers in particular can be handled by a limited number of people, which contributes to higher productivity.

Because the forming conditions can now be managed under CNC control, differences between operators are easier to keep down, which also helps stabilise quality. This supports building a production setup that can supply consistent quality on an ongoing basis while developing heavy plate bending as a new business.
